The “Lets Make More Money” program – Let us help you make more money!

Under this program, we help our publishers make more money – for which we do all the work and our publishers just give their feedback! Now it cannot get any more easier than that to make more money!

Our publishers have to send us these information to start making more money today:
a. The links to the pages where they would embed our widget to display the contextual product ads

b. Type of products that they want to sell on their site (for ex: books or clothing or electronic goods etc),

c. The expected revenues that they would like to generate (for ex: $10 per month, $100 per month etc.)

d. As detailed as possible visitor statistics of their site

We use these responses to churn out these:
1. A customized list of keywords that they could then incorporate into our widget – these keywords along with the contextual analysis would help the widget generate the most appropriate product ads for their website

2. UI suggestions to modify our widget so that it generates ads that matches the look and feel of their site – the more the ads looks like a part of any site, the better the chances of someone clicking on it

Of course, this will be an iterative process and we will work with our publishers throughout the process till we all are happy with the results.

Or in other words, we won’t stop until you have helped you make more money. Just our way to show that we care!

Google, Bing to incorporate tweets in its results – Good or Bad?

In my opinion, people typically search under these conditions:
1. Exploratory, discovery type of search

For example: Like last night as I was helping out my daughter with her science project, I really needed to look things up! This is the type of search where the results from Google, Bing, Kosmix, etc are of great help.

2. Real time search
For example: When I need to know what people are currently talking about Kanye West, or the latest LCD TV. For this, search engines focusing on Twitter feeds are perfect.

And now, we are talking about combining both of them!

I may not need to see the tweets of all internet junkies every time I search, especially not when I am searching for topics of my daughter’s science project. My needs are similar to a visit to the good old library!

I will definitely need to see the tweets of all internet junkies every time I search for which laptop or TV to buy. My needs are similar to asking around for feedback and understanding general trends.

The point, I am trying to make is, what I search for, my needs, my expected results are all different all the time – and search engines should respect that, understand that and offer me appropriate results.

While analyzing the historical trends, relevancy and popularity from tweets and incorporating them in search results might be good, displaying search results sprinkled with tweets may not be required all the time.

I think, it should be upto the users to decide and inform the search engine what they expect out of it – and the search engines should behave accordingly.

If I asked for the tweets in my results, only then give it to me – else its spam for me!

CPM – Does it makes any sense any more?

CPM has been and always will be the most commonly used mechanism for advertisers to generate brand awareness albeit in different forms. Those full-page ads in newspapers, billboards on the freeways, banner ads on any portal, relate to something more fundamental as to how human beings think and make decisions – to buy or not to buy; if to buy, then when to buy and for how much.

But does the CPM model makes sense any more? It’s been tried and trusted for long enough but what is its future in the new internet enabled world?

My take is that CPM model as a model will withstand the test of time but with substantial changes as to how they are delivered and consumed. The technology for delivering ads on a CPM basis will definitely change and make this much more of an effective mechanism for advertisers.

To illustrate my point, consider this example: If you are on a page reading about Kanye West’s latest blockbuster release, you really do not care about (and thus your brain would automatically tune out) the ad for reducing your mortgage payments. On the other hand, if you see an ad for the latest lineup of shoes by him, you would look at it and if the message were sharp enough, you would probably click on it too! Agreed that clicking on an ad and landing on a page does not mean a sale, but atleast it served the purpose of generating awareness about that specific brand in your mind.

Now, the main point that I am making in my example was that the CPM model worked – but only because of its contextual relevancy. Now, in addition to the page relevancy, add a toping of site visitor’s interest relevancy. Now in our example above, if the ads were about the latest lineup of shoes only because the visitor at some point in the past on some other site, had indicated an interest in buying or had actually bought a pair of shoes – then we have a model that really works.

And today in this digital world of the Internet, we can rely on technology to give us this mechanism of providing contextual relevancy – both for the page the visitor is currently reading (viewing) and for the interests that the visitor had expressed in the past.

The good news is that we have seen unprecedented growth in our publishers base.
The bad news is that this has put unprecedented pressures on our servers and we crashed to a standstill yesterday, August 2nd 2009 at 4:48 pm PST.

Our IT team scrambled to fix these issues as soon they could and resolved them today, August 3rd at 11:12 am PST by reinforcing the servers.

Understanding Internet Advertising Models – Cost Per Click, Cost Per Thousand Impressions & Cost Per Action

Starting out in the world of internet marketing and advertising can prove to be quite a daunting task even for those who are well prepared and understand the basics of marketing campaigns. The stakes are simply too high to just throw yourself into the game ill prepared. Here are some of the most important pieces of information that will help you start off on the right foot. 

Along with Yahoo (http://www.yahoo.com), Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com) and Amazon (http://www.amazon.com), Google (http://www.google.com) is one of the largest advertising network on the internet. Google offers a program called AdWords (http://google.com/adwords) which is one of the most powerful tools available today for webmasters and website owners. Google Adwords enables them to create their own custom advertisements, either text or images or both, and publish them across the internet. To do this, Google AdWords work in conjunction with Google AdSense. Google AdSense (http://google.com/adsense) is simply a network of partner websites on which Google displays targeted advertisements published through the Google AdWords program.

Setting up your first account in Google AdWords is an easy task. Apart from the usual personal information, you will also be required to provide some information about your advertising campaign. First off, you will need to decide on the preferred budget for your campaign. Do not take this lightly because the costs of running an advertising campaign with Google AdWords, or on any of the other ad networks, can scale up to really large investments. You can specify the amount that you would like to pay when site visitors click on your advertisement. This is known as the “Cost Per Click (CPC)” model (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cost_Per_Click) . Your CPC should be carefully planned and Google will help you to make this decision by suggesting an optimum budget for your campaign. The other model is known as “Cost Per One Thousand Impressions” (CPM) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cost_Per_Thousand) where you pay a fixed amount for a thousand impressions of your advertisement, If you go with the CPM model over the CPC, you could still calculate your CPC through your CPM. For example: for every CPM, you will receive a projected rate of clicks, for example 3 %, or 30 clicks at $1 per thousand impressions. This means that you will eventually end up having an approximately 3 cent CPC.

Another viable model offered by all internet advertising networks is the “Cost Per Action (CPA)” model (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cost_per_action), or Cost Per Lead as it is often known. CPA is more commonly used among affiliate marketing companies. CPA offers measurable and quantifiable metrics correlating marketing costs vs revenues generated. For example: if you have a $5000 budget and a $ 125 CPA, then your revenues would be from the sale of 40 units.

Well seasoned internet marketers have mastered the art of an effective internet marketing campaigns and are raking in huge profits harvesting the increasing number of people who are going online for their daily activities. It can be a daunting task for any newbie internet marketer to effectively use this model to make money.
